First of all you need to get to Denpasar, the capital of Bali province. The fastest and most popular way to reach Denpasar is by flight. Whether direct flight (many of them operate from Australia, Europe, Asia) or transit (the most popular ones are Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok) you will land in Ngurah Rai International airport. If you are coming from western part of Indonesia you can also use ferry from Java and bus\taxi from Gilimanuk harbor, or if you are coming from East Indonesia Lombok\Gili islands you can drop off at Padang Bai harbour.
3 Ways To get Into Nusa Penida
To go to these 3 ways, you can reach there by taxi or grab or driver service. Whichever your way is, you can choose several options how to reach Nusa Penida from Bali mainland:
1) By speedboat from Sanur harbour
Jetty in Sanur is situated here. It is also the same starting point for speedboats to Nusa Lembongan. These speedboats are much more often than the ones to Nusa Penida and it is important not to mix them up.
Different speedboat companies operate on different piers on Nusa Penida between Sampalan and Toyapakeh. We recommend to book a ticket in advance and come to the pier half an hour before departure (during week end and holidays there may be lots of tourists so all tickets may be sold out).
From Sanur, it takes 30 - 45 minutes to arrive at Nusa Penida. It's a little bit longer than than depart from Tribuana Harbour. Tour half day in Nusa Penida: Go to Kelingking Beach.
2) Tribuana Harbour
There is only 1 speedboat company in this area that serve a passenger. In this port you will see others boat company that only serve a goods transport to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. For a speedboat that serve passengers transport is Gangga Express. They owned more than 5 speedboats to carry peoples to Nusa Penida (Nusa Penida ONLY).
The good things is the have a pontoon so you will not get wet when entering the boat. This is a plus point that Sanur Harbour don't have. Start from 6.30 am, 7 am, 7.30 am, 12.15 pm, and 13.15 pm. Tour half day in Nusa Penida: Go to Kelingking Beach.
2) Ferry boat from Padang Bai
It costs IDR 31.000 per person, 50.000 per motorbike and around 300.000 per car. First, you need to by ticket for passengers, and then after, passing the control border you pay for transport. Ferry departs from Padang Bai at 11 AM, and from Nusa Penida at 8 AM. The journey lasts more than hour.
Schedule could be flexible (rather later but could be even earlier) so better to arrive 1 hour if you go by motorbike, and up to 3 hours earlier if you go by car. There is also a chance of a long queue there.
You can also reach Nusa Penida from Nusa Lembongan. There is a public boat that starts from Jungut Batu village and costs IDR 50.000 per person. You can also look for a private boat that will drop you anywhere you’ll ask. The price depends on your bargaining abilities. Usually is around 50.000-100.000 IDR per person.
